Turbine House
Renovation of 19th century turbine house
The Turbine House was built in 1891 to provide electricity for Margam Castle. A head of water drove a turbine of 25 horse-power, with steam a engine back up all located in a purpose built engine house. The original turbine was replaced in c.a. 1930’s and remained in position since that time. The Turbine House was partly demolished in a storm in 2015.
Acanthus Holden were responsible for the design and management of the repairs to the building and the repair and restoration of the turbine carried out by Heidra Ltd.
The electricity produced is now linked into the National Grid.
