Ffynone Mansion Courtyards

Client – Robert Lloyd George

Location – New Chapel, Pemrokeshire

Commission – Up to RIBA stage D

The Main House at Ffynone was designed for Col John Colby by John Nash in 1792-9 and was designated a Grade I listing in 1952. The house underwent changes for the next 100 years before F Inigo Thomas remodelled aspects of the main house in the region of 1902-7.

In 1988 the house was bought and effectively saved by the Earl and Countess Lloyd George. The purchase of the estate included 30 acres of landscaped gardens now included on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

The proposed scheme is for the change of use of the Victorian stables and coach houses at Ffynone along with alterations to the existing staff accommodation. These aspects of the building form the inner and outer courtyard on the existing site.

The proposed use will be residential accommodation and related facilities for the elderly (+55 yrs) combined with new car parking and disabled access provision.
