Aberdare town centre provides a remarkable example of a successful Victorian commercial area which has retained the majority of its traditional buildings, even though there has been an erosion of historic detailing. The dramatic growth of the town throughout the Victorian period (1837-1901) and the economic difficulties in the Valleys from Edwardian times onwards has resulted in the retention of the majority of the buildings and historic townscapes, with limited redevelopment. Acanthus Holden have prepared drawings to enable the sensitive restoration of significant buildings within the conservation area.
